BEEBE — It was not a good night for the Lonoke Jackrabbits football team.
Already playing without their starting quarterback Logan Dozier, who was injured in a scrimmage game at Maumelle a few weeks back, second-team QB Braidon Bryant was injured on the opening kickoff as the Jackrabbits lost to Beebe 49-7 in the Battle of Highway 31 on Friday night.
Bryant suffered a shoulder injury and could not play in the game. Third-team quarterback Daniel Seigrist was forced into duty for the entire game.
The Class 5A Badgers scored early and often in jumping out to a 27-0 lead.
Beebe took a 7-0 lead with 8:51 left in the first quarter on a 7-yard run by Taylor Boyce. That was following a Lonoke fumble. Daniel Martinez kicked the extra point.
Lonoke punted on its next possession. That led to a 9-play, 88-yard scoring drive by the Badgers. Boyce scored his second touchdown on a 37-yard run with 31 seconds left in the first quarter.
The Jackrabbits then turned the ball over again on a bad snap with Beebe recovering at the Lonoke 17. Three plays later, Beebe’s Khalil Anthony scored on a 6-yard run with 10:01 left to give the Badgers a 20-0 lead.
Beebe then recovered an onside kick at the Lonoke 47. Ten plays later, Anthony scored again to give his team a 27-0 lead.
Lonoke’s only highlight of the game came on the next play from scrimmage. Seigrist ran 62 yards for the Jackrabbits’ only touchdown of the game. Mario Reyes kicked the extra point to make the score 27-7 with 4:07 left in the first half.
Beebe scored two more first-half touchdowns and added a two-point conversion to lead 42-7 at halftime. The game clock ran the entire second half.
Anthony scored on a 3-yard run and C.J. Cauldwell threw a 27-yard touchdown pass to Boyce. Cauldwell scored the two-point conversion.
Beebe’s final touchdown of the night came on a 7-yard run by Nathan Burnett with six minutes left in the third quarter.
The Jackrabbits had only 114 yards in total offense. Seigrist had 90 yards rushing on nine carries. Michael Hodges had 14 yards on six carries. Xavier Hodge had five yards on two carries.
Seigrist completed 1 of 5 passes for five yards. Isaac Toney had the only reception.
Dylan Smith led Lonoke with eight tackles. Hodges had seven.
Lonoke will travel to Newport this Friday to take on the Greyhounds.
